Brong Ahafo women supporters launched

Sunyani Jan 24, GNA - Madam Felicia Adomah, northern sector coordinator for Women Supporters Union of Ghana has urged women to explore their God-given talents for the benefit of society. She was addressing women at the launch of the union in Sunyani to boost their support for the national football team, Black Stars, in the CAN 2008 African Cup of Nations tournament.

The co-ordinator emphasized that the aim of the union was to encourage women to develop their talents and to fight for their rights. The union established a few years ago, has branches all over the country due to its positive impact on women and the Brong Ahafo Regional branch has about 500 members. Madam Adomah stated that the women's body did not only urge women to support sports but also help them to acquire skills and training to improve their living standards. She noted that, "women have a lot of potentials that can be tapped for the nation's development" and therefore advised them not to limit themselves to home-keeping.

"Women by nature were created in a very special way and easily make progress in all situations", adding that women were good supporters in sports and needed to be encouraged to improve and promote football in the country. Mr. Kofi Kumi, national coordinator of the union asked women not to concentrate on attending meetings but to have enough time to take care of the family. He urged members to register their family members with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enjoy better health delivery. The national co-ordinator appealed to members and the general public not to politicize the activities of the union, which, he said, was open to all including men interested in sports.
