Koforidua, Nov. 17, GNA- The New Juaben Secretariat of the National Youth Employment Programme(NYEP) is to start a sports module next year and would specialize in soccer as a means of providing employment for the youth in the Municipality.
This was disclosed by the Municipal Co-ordinator of the NYEP, Mr Benjamin Oduro Asante in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Koforidua on Friday.
He said the New Juaben Municipality has talented male and female footballers and the programme wanted to tap and exploit the potential as a means of providing employment for the area. Mr Asante said the programme would organize the youth from the colts level into under 17 and under 23 years with the aim of producing a premier clubs in the Municipality to help produce professional footballers of international standards.
He said the proposals for the project had been forwarded to the national head officer of the NYEP and once the initial funding was made available the project would take off. Mr Asante said already the Municipality is implementing five modules of the programme including Youth in Agriculture, Health Extension Workers, Community Protection Unit, Waste and Sanitation and the Internship module.
He said over 346 youth had been employed under the scheme this year alone through his secretariat, while over 100 other youth engaged under the internship module in Accra had been sent to the municipality to work with some state institutions. 17 Nov. 07
