NGO appeals to Konkombas, Bimobas to stop fight

Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - A non-governmental organisation linked to Northern Ghana on Wednesday appealed to Konkombas and Bimobas to immediately stop the fighting that has claimed at least five lives.

"It is quite embarrassing to see northerners in these trying moments of the area not teaming up to cry for food, shelter and clothing but rather engaging in yet another conflict to destruction of the little food and few houses the floods have spared us with," the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy said in a statement in Accra.

It said while individuals, organisations and the government were being urged to be sympathetic to the crisis in the north following floods that have wrecked havoc, the two factions were demonstrating that they did not deserve the sympathy and support of others.

The NGO said there was evidence that the north was not developed and so continuously taking up arms against themselves was a strong basis for continuous neglect, discrimination and marginalisation. Several days of continuous rains in the north have left up to 18 people dead and more than 250,000 displaced.

Roads, bridges, farmlands and harvest have been destroyed. Fighting erupted between the Bimobas and Konkombas at the weekend.
