Lady-Tyson Strikes in Kumawu

- Queenmother Gone Mad

The Kumawuhemaa, Obaapanin Nana Serwaah Amponsah II, has added insults to injuries, the last straw that will break the camel's back. She has bashed one of her subjects, Mr. Kwame Adu, a married man in his forties in public.

On the recent Akwasidae, Sunday the 29th July 2007, the mentioned queen mother sent for Kwame Adu. She asked him why he had declined the elders' request to him to perform with his troops the previous day, Saturday the 28th July 2007—that is "Memeneda dapaa", in remembrance of the passed chief, Barima Asumadu Sakyi II?

Hardly had he explained himself when the queen mother started delivering repeated slaps to both of his cheeks. He was gobsmacked and also dazzled by the unexpected slapping, according to onlookers. To Kwame Adu, the queen mother had stopped him from performing in public a few days to that fateful day. She had said to him the chief, Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, had died and until his funeral, all other funerals and public performances were banned. It was for the reason assigned to stopping him as stated that he refused to honour the call out to him by the elders of Kumawu to perform in honour of the late Barima Asumadu Sakyi II. He had decided not to perform for whomever, until as directed by the queen mother.

This notorious act was said to have been carried out in the presence of two of her most senior council of elders namely, "Kontihene" and Okyeame Kodua. The queen is said to boast of her connections with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, some highly positioned members of the ruling NPP government and the NPP as a political party. People think that is the reason why she has no respect for her subjects, always insulting them thinking she can get away with anything even when a complaint is lodged against her.

The Iron-lady now quipped by Kumawu citizens as Lady-Tyson, also tore his T-Shirt. She was about to give him a kick in the arse and balls when her elders intervened to save Adu from further humiliation. He has since been teased and ridiculed at Kumawu for cringing while Lady-Tyson delivered him slaps in quick succession reminiscent of Bruce Lee's marshal art of Karate.

In another matter, that is to the traditionalist who cares to know, it is a taboo for dogs to be introduced let alone be kept at Ankaase. Yet, Nana Hemaa had been keeping a pet dog in their midst and under their sensitive nose for years until she decided to move it into her house in Accra, without anyone raising a finger. I personally don't care much as such a taboo means nothing to me. But to the preachers of traditions and customs, what is the essence if the very custodians do flout their observance?

What is wrong with this crazy lady? Does anybody in Kumawu have the courage to stand up to this mad woman?
