Acute water shortage hits Akyem Oda New Town

Akyem Oda (E/R), Jan 17, GNA- Residents of Akyem Oda New Town in the Eastern Region have been battling with an acute water shortage for the past two weeks.

The situation is so serious that people are compelled to wake up as early as 0200 hours to look for water from hand-dug wells for their domestic chores.

The present dry weather conditions prevailing in the country was compounding the woes of the residents as most of the hand-dug wells were dried up forcing some people to rely on sachet water for their domestic use.

The residents have therefore appealed to the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to take the necessary steps to address the situation to save them from further agony.

Mr Robert Poku, the Akyem Oda District Manager of the GWC told the He said electricians were working around the clock to have it repaired and assured the residents that they would soon enjoy uninterrupted water supply.
