Kwaebibirem registers over 2,000 youth for employment programme

Kade, Sept 11, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Assembly has registered a total of 2,071 youth under the National Youth Employment Programme.

About 560 of them were registered in the Youth in Agric-business, 585 in trade, 310 as auxiliary health assistants, 53 in waste and sanitation, 361 as community teaching assistants, 106 in internship and industrial attachments and 96 in the community protection system. This was made known by the District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, at the last sitting of the assembly at Kade on Friday. He said the Capitation Grant had increased school enrolment from about 35,000 to 42,000 and that the combined effect of the grant and the Ghana School Feeding Programme on educational facilities, books and others was phenomenal.

"There is the need to start strategizing now before it is too late." Touching on the Kwaebibirem Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Yiadom-Boakye said at the close of the third year registration period in August, 75,216 persons had registered and paid premium of 1,778,040, 000 cedis.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye said in response to request by farmers for extension of the registration period for the scheme, it had been opened from September to November. He said the underlying reason was to enable farmers to harvest their produce and therefore afford to pay the premium. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said each assembly member would receive an ex-gratia award of two million cedis by the end of September. GNA
