Bole-Bamboi NPP Constituency chairman protest over assault on his son

Accra, June 20, GNA - Alhaji Mahama Salifu, Bole Bamboi Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lodged protest over an alleged assault on his son, Mahama Haruna by the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Police Criminal Investigations Department.

A statement signed by Alhaji Salifu said, Haruna who is student leader was assaulted following his request for bail for a colleague student leader from the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL).

"It baffles me why some deviant Police Officers should take the law into their own hands by abusing the human rights of innocent civilians instead of being responsive to security needs of the civil society;" the statement said.

The Mr Salifu called on the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander to conduct an investigation into the matter so that culprits would be brought to book or else, he would use legal means to demand justice for his son.

Mr Bright Oduro, Greater Accra Regional Crime Officer, has meanwhile denied the allegations of assault to the Ghana News Agency when contacted.

He said Haruna rather went to the Office of the Deputy Crime Officer shouting that his friend should be released. Mr Oduro said instead of arresting Haruna for obstructing Police investigations they rather asked him to walk out of the office.
