Yefri holds fundraising rally

Yefri (B/A), April 24, GNA - Citizens of Yefri in the Nkoranza district at the weekend mobilised 27 million cedis at a fund-raising rally for the construction of a Girls' dormitory block for the Community Day Senior Secondary School.

Yefri Nkosuokuo, whose members are mostly natives resident in Accra-Tema, Kumasi, Sunyani and Kintampo organised the rally. Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, commended the people for their self-help spirit and efforts in financing of a Senior Secondary School (SSS) in the area.

The DCE paid special tribute to the chief of the area, Nana Okoforobour Osei Bonsu II, for spearheading the SSS project and also investing his resources in the provision of accommodation in the school. Mr Appiah-Awuah gave said the District Assembly would offer the necessary support toward the development of the school to enhance the education of the youth.

He announced said Government had put in place structures to absorb the school into the public system and called on parents in the catchment communities to enrol their children in the school.

Mr. Alex Effah-Takyi, Chairman of the Kumasi branch of the Yefri Nkosuokuo, said the people had begun construction work on a police station project to enhance security in the area.

He advised the youth not to let partisan politics to divide them, so they could plan better for the development of the community. Mr. Prince Ofosu-Adjei, an educationist and member of the Kumasi branch, said they had plans to start a community rural bank in the area to encourage the people to improve their economic activities. He asked non-resident citizens, especially those abroad, to mobilize about 500 million cedis as seed capital for the start of the bank. The acting headmaster of the school, Mr. Seth Badu Waye appealed for a library and a source of good drinking water.
