Zoomlion workers to stop work over unpaid salaries

Workers of Zoomlion Company in the Suhum Municipality have not been paid for the past six months, Madam Juliana Korantemaa, a worker, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Suhum.

She said she had five children, one in the Senior High School (SHS), two in the Junior High School (JHS) and because they had not been paid she could not register one of them for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year.

Mad. Korantemaa said she woke up at dawn daily to sweep the streets, the market and the lorry station, collected the refuse, weeded some parts of the town and desilted some gutters.

She said anytime she and other workers demanded their salary, the management of the company gave them the assurance they would be paid but nothing had been done.

She said the cholera outbreak in Suhum could get worse because many Zoomlion workers in Suhum were threatening to stop work until they were paid.
