Zoomlion wages war against mosquitoes in UWR

Wa, Aug. 13, GNA – The rainy season has caused an increase in mosquitoes and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a leading waste management company is ensuring that the Upper West Region is free from the malaria agent.

In this regard, the Upper West Regional Branch of the company has embarked on a routine mosquito spraying exercise to reduce its population in the area.

Mr Emmanuel Volsuuri, Zoomlion Regional Manager, who briefed the GNA, said the exercise was targeted at destroying both the adult mosquitoes and their larvae.

He said stagnant water areas such as ponds and slow moving streams were sprayed with an environmentally friendly insecticide known as Vectobac 12As to kill the larvae.

Barrier spraying and de-silting of choked gutters were also done to destroy the habitats of adult mosquitoes and prevent breeding.

Mr Volsuuri said public toilets, refuse containers and dumping sites were all disinfested to destroy houseflies and other harmful disease-causing agents.

He said the exercise would be done regularly and called on the general public to cooperate with the company by practicing sound environmental and sanitation practices.
