Zoomlion cleans up Sunyani central market

Sunyani (B/A), May 23, GNA - Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a private sanitation and waste management firm on Thursday held a clean-up exercise at the Nana Bosoma central market in Sunyani to rid the place of filth.

Wednesdays are days set aside as "market days" where a number of traders and consumers drawn from the Sunyani municipality and beyond troop to the central market to undertake their activities. Mr. Benjamin Ashon, Brong-Ahafo Regional Operations Supervisor of Zoomlion led some employees of the company to undertake the exercise which lasted for about three hours. They picked plastic waste, cleaned and desilted choked gutters as well as weeded some bushy areas. Mr. Ashon told newsmen that the company had realized that the central market became filthy, especially after market days whilst some squatters also defecated in some parts of the market. He gave the assurance that his outfit would continue embarking on the exercise to promote sound environmental sanitation among users of the facility.

Mr. Ashon later presented 14 litter bins to the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Company on behalf of Zoomlion to promote proper sanitation among passengers who access their facilities. He noted with concern that some passengers threw litter in buses they boarded because of lack of waste containers which he said posed as a serious threat to their life. Mr. Asiedu Ayim, Assistant Regional Manager, MMT who received the bins thanked Zoomlion for the gesture and assured the company that it would use the bins for its intended purposes.
