The youth of Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra in the Ablekuma Central Constituency, have presented a citation of honour to the Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF), Alhaji Halidu Haruna, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to youth empowerment and support for religious and community initiatives.
The presentation, which took place at the ZoDF head office in Accra, was led by a delegation of youth leaders and community representatives from Sabon Zongo.
They expressed profound appreciation to Alhaji Halidu Haruna for his continuous commitment to improving the lives of young people in Zongo communities through education, sports, and socio-economic empowerment.
According to the youth, the honour was also to acknowledge the CEO’s support and collaboration towards the successful organisation of the 2025 Greater Accra Zongo Maulid Cup, a football tournament designed to foster unity, discipline, and peace among the youth.
They noted that his support played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the competition, which attracted football teams from various Zongo communities.
The tournament formed part of the activities marking the 2025 Greater Accra Zongo Maulid, an annual celebration that brings together Islamic scholars, youth groups, and community leaders to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
This year’s event focused on promoting peace and educating the youth on the dangers of drug abuse and other social vices.
In his remarks, Alhaji Halidu Haruna expressed gratitude to the youth for the honour, assuring them of the ZoDF’s continued commitment to implementing programmes and projects that directly benefit Zongo communities.
He emphasised that youth development remains a core priority of the Fund, “when the youth are empowered with skills, education, and opportunities, the entire community benefits,” he noted.
