Zabzugu Assembly adopts disaster alertness strategy

Mr Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandow, Zabzugu District Chief Executive in the Northern Region, said the assembly would from time to time engage the citizenry on public safety tips to avoid the harmful effects of disasters.

Mr Laa-Bandow, who was speaking during the observance of the seventh National Sanitation Day in the district cautioned the people to take a cue from the Accra flood incident and desist from dumping refuse haphazardly especially into gutters.

He asked the District National Disaster Management Organisation Coordinator and his staff to as a matter of urgency to ensure that communities along the Oti River, which always get flooded during the raining season, are well prepared and educated to find shelter elsewhere to avoid lost of lives and property.

He said “excuses will not be accepted should the unfortunate happen”.

He advised the citizenry to seek permit and technical advice from the Works Department of the Assembly before they put up buildings or structures to curtail the numerous incidents where such properties collapse or their roofs rip off during heavy rain storm.

Mr Laa-Bandow expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the June 3, flood victims in the Greater Accra Region.

He also consoled the families who lost relatives in the explosion that hit the Goil Filling Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
