Youth in four C/R districts to receive business assistance

Twifo-Praso (C/R), Nov. 20, GNA- The youth in four selected districts in the Central Region, are to benefit from the 'youth fund' instituted by the government and the National Youth Council (NYC) to assist them to start, or expand their business ventures.

The beneficiary districts are Twifo-Hemang-lower-Denkyira, Assin, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam.

Mr Joe Mantey, National Coordinator of the NYC, said this on Wednesday, during a visit to Twifo-Praso to interact with members of a committee set up to disburse the proposed fund, as part of a day's working visit to the central region.

According to him, the fund would have an initial amount of 10 billion cedis to be shared among 30 districts nationwide on pilot basis, and that it is to be a revolving fund for only registered youth groups and individuals.

He explained that the funds would be lodged in selected vocational institutes, and would be assessed by the beneficiary districts in the form of loans, after presenting their business plans of the individual groups.

He, therefore, called on the districts to provide the NYC data on youth groups applying for the fund.

Mr Abraham Odoom, the District Chief Executive, commended the Council for instituting the fund, and said it would help curtail the rural-urban drift for non-existing jobs.
