Youth coordinator lauds government for launching youth policy

Wa, Aug 26, GNA - Mr Mumuni Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Council (NYC), has lauded government for launching the long awaited national youth policy document.

He said the policy would not only provide a sense of direction for government, youth coordinators and the youth themselves but would also ensure effective implementation and coordination of policies, programmes and projects geared towards youth development.

Mr Sulemana told the GNA in an interview on Wednesday that the youth policy would now serve as a basis for measuring the performance of youth development workers.

He said the policy deals with issues such as education and skills training for the youth, youth into Information Communication Technology (ICT), modern agriculture as well as youth employment and entrepreneurial development.

Mr Sulemana said he convened a meeting with youth organisers of the major political parties, registered youth associations as well as other major stakeholders in youth development in the region to discuss the document.

He said at the meeting the youth enthusiastically embraced the document and described it as a workable document that clearly spelt out all their expectations.

Mr. Sulemana said the youth also warned that no individual, organisation or political party should be seen attempting to politicize the youth policy document as it had the tendency of destroying what is best for the youth.

He appealed to the youth to study the policy document well and hold government and other major stakeholders accountable if they fail to implement strictly the activities outlined in the document.
