The Brong Ahafo Regional Co-odinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr Pascal Assan Edwards, has observed that youth unemployment is a serious canker eating into the fabrics of the Ghanaian society.

All efforts should therefore, be made to eradicate or reduce it to the barest minimum, to secure the future of the nation's economy.

Mr Edwards made the observation at the opening of a one – day orientation seminar on curbing youth unemployment, held in Sunyani.

The seminar, which was a collaborative effort by the Brong Ahafo NYA, Barclays Bank's Ready To Work Project, and Suncity Radio, was facilitated by Mr Solomon Agyemfra, Community Relations Manager of Barclays Bank Ghana Ltd.

Mr Edwards commended the Managements of Barclays Bank and Suncity Radio, for supporting his outfit to curb this socio – economic phenomenon of youth unemployment in the region.

In his presentation, Mr Agyemfra said Ready To Work Project aimed primarily at preparing and equipping the youth to either secure better jobs or go into good personal businesses, in order to lead meaningful lives and make positive impact on their communities and the Ghanaian society in general.

He explained that the project hinges on 4 main modules – Work, People, Money and Enterprise skills development to churn out products or people with the right or appropriate qualification and attitude for easy access on the job market.

Welcoming participants to the seminar, the Director of the University of Ghana, Sunyani Centre, Rev. Anthony Madana, urged Ghanaian youth to have focus in life and work hard to persue and achieve their academic and professional ambitions.

He said the nation needs a well groomed and responsible youth who would take up the mantle of national transformation in the near future
