Young entrepreneurs in Lower Manya Krobo receive business training

Some 66 young entrepreneurs in Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region on Friday, June 26, 2020, benefited from a day’s targeted training in entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and innovation aimed at providing them with core business skills.

The event, organized by the National Entrepreneurship Innovative Program (NEIP) Under the Ministry of Business Development, was to empower young people to take responsibility for their personal and professional future through creating and developing their own business plan to achieve financial independence.

The young entrepreneurs including masons, abolo sellers, seafood sellers, block factory operators, crop farmers, fish farmers, poultry farmers, etc. benefitted from the technical and entrepreneurial skills training in response to the growing unemployment among the nation’s youth as it would afford the unemployed the opportunity to create jobs for themselves and others.

Explaining the rationale behind the training, Asuogyaman District Director for the National Youth Authority and Acting Municipal Director in Lower Manya Krobo, Luyusa Akilu Mohammed Zabado said the training targeted 43 young entrepreneurs who had already received training from the National Youth Authority in detergent making, hand sanitizer, Dettol, shower gel making as well as 23 other young entrepreneurs.

Miss Akilu said the training was aimed at creating entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth, encouraging them by providing the knowledge, resources, and support necessary to create their own small business to give them a better chance to achieve their financial and professional goals.

The entrepreneurs, she said, received capacity building and knowledge on business development skills including records keeping, book-keeping, management, marketing, and business plan development on how to manage their businesses.

Part of the objectives of the training is also to reward viable business ideas. The Director said business plans had already been taken from the participants and the best business plans would receive financial support from the NEIP support program to expand their businesses.

Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for decentralizing the NEIA program which now made it possible to train young people at the district level.

Describing the program as unprecedented, he said, the training would financially empower the youth to enable them to be self-sustainable and he urged the beneficiaries to continue to acquire more knowledge on their various businesses to achieve better results.

To him, this is what governments should be doing to enable young people to expand their various ventures to enable them to employ others and he urged the trainees to take advantage of the knowledge acquired to improve on their businesses.
