The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yilo Krobo, Addo Francis Akumatey, has outlined a series of notable achievements within his first five months in office, emphasising progress in governance, infrastructure, education, health, and sanitation across the municipality.
Akumatey, who was confirmed with a 100 percent endorsement by Assembly Members on May 19, 2025, and assumed office two days later, said his administration’s early successes demonstrate his commitment to improving public service delivery, ensuring security, and enhancing the welfare of residents.
Security and Public Safety
To strengthen peace and security, the MCE convened a Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) meeting that, for the first time, included the Koforidua and Asesewa Police Commands—whose jurisdictions cover parts of Yilo Krobo. The coordinated approach has helped quell several land and chieftaincy disputes, domestic violence incidents, and other potential disturbances.
In collaboration with the Somanya Police Command, the Assembly also decongested the Somanya Roundabout, providing alternative parking and loading spaces for tricycles and long-distance vehicles to improve traffic flow and safety.
Infrastructure Development
Within the period, several roads were reshaped and gravelled, including the Osuboi–Opersika–Aboa stretch, Oterkpolu Bridge roads, and Obenyemi–Abotia road.
Potholes across inner Somanya roads were patched, while a new bypass from Bethel Preparatory School to Dohetso was constructed to ease movement.
Education and Youth Support
The MCE’s office has supported multiple educational initiatives, including providing cadet boots for Krobo Girls SHS, funding programs for UESD and MOMACO students, and sponsoring basic school graduations and awards ceremonies. His intervention also secured nursing and teacher training admissions for five students.
Employment and Administration
The Assembly has offered jobs to 80 Internally Generated Fund (IGF) staff and two recruits at the Forestry Department in Somanya.
To strengthen discipline, a clock-in system was introduced to curb lateness and absenteeism, while both the MCE’s and MCD’s offices were refurbished.
The Assembly also repaired three official vehicles, cleared outstanding staff salaries, and paid overdue commissions to revenue collectors.
Community Engagement and Governance
The Assembly Chief has visited all departments and held extensive engagements with chiefs, opinion leaders, artisans, and church leaders.
Also, all seven zonal councils in Yilo Krobo have been inaugurated, and community engagements have been conducted in five zones so far.
Projects and Development Initiatives
Under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the Assembly has awarded contracts for projects such as, construction of a CHPS compound at Brukum, a two-unit classroom block at Korboe Okumka, Somanya, five mechanised boreholes with treatment plants across the municipality.
Additionally, several legacy projects are ongoing, including renovation of official bungalows, construction of nurses’ quarters and a police post at Klo-Agogo, and multiple educational and health infrastructure developments under GETFund.
Sanitation and Health
The Assembly organised five consecutive National Sanitation Day exercises between June and October 2025, clearing long-standing refuse heaps in communities such as Somanya, Oterkpolu, Nkurakan, and Klo-Agogo.
In the health sector, the MCE supported the repair of the Somanya Ambulance’s air conditioner, restoring it to full service, and funded several public health outreach initiatives.
Party and Welfare Support
Just four days after his confirmation, the MCE, in collaboration with constituency executives, launched a GH₵20,000 welfare package to support party branch executives who fall ill or get injured while carrying out official duties.
Akumatey reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparency, development, and community-centred leadership, pledging to “work with all stakeholders to make Yilo Krobo a model of effective local governance.”
