World shoe factory donates 2,500 shoes to kids in areas affected by dam spillage

Some 2,500 kids living in areas affected by last year’s spillage of the Akosombo dam have received shoes as part of efforts to assuage the impact of the disaster on the communities.

The World Shoes Factory located at Akosombo in the Eastern Region distributed the footwear to them at a ceremony in Akosombo as part of its corporate social responsibilities to the people.

The shoes made of antimicrobial and biodegradable chemicals makes them degradable which will protect the feet from infection.

Vice president of the world shoes factory in charge of operations, Mr. Seth Offei underscored the importance of the welfare of the people to the company.
According to him, the wellbeing of the people was of utmost priority to them, adding that the company would persist in its efforts to put smiles on the faces of the people.

Dr. Kwaku Benjamin Taylor, president of the World Shoe Factory disclosed that the company since its inception last year has employed close to 300 indigenes of the district to help reduce the unemployment rate in the area.

He called for more assistance from other companies to support their host communities in diverse ways.

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko lauded the company for the several job opportunities created out of their establishment. He stressed on the need to enhance local content and the need to employ more locals in such establishments.

“I recognize the fact that Ghana is a unitary state where indigenes must have the chance to work in locally established companies but we need to enhance our local content,” said the lawmaker. “It’s a win, win situation for all of us if more locals are employed.”

He described the youth of the area as hardworking, armed with the requisite skills and qualifications to work and expressed his appreciation to World Shoes for the employment opportunities given his constituents.

Mr. Nyarko also disclosed advanced intentions to also distribute shoes to the pupils of some deprived schools in his constituency.

On his part, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Asuogyaman constituency, Pius Enam Hadzide described the factory as evidence of government’s one district, one factory initiative, adding that enormous opportunities had been created for many through the donation of the shoes and hundreds of job opportunities.

He called for patronage for local products to ensure the development of local establishments and avoid overdependence on foreign-made products.

The CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA) said he had plans of contributing part of his GETFund allocations as MP to support the operations of the company to produce more shoes to be donated to the children, adding that his immediate plan was to purchase 1000 of the shoes for distribution to the kids.
