Work to resume on uncompleted Sokakope-Ho Highway - Ntosoo

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Finance to pay contractors engaged on portions of Sogakope-Adidome-Ho-Adaklu trunk road “as a matter of urgency”.

Work on portions of that highway had been at a standstill for some time now.

President Dramani’s directive sought to get the contractors to resume work by latest two weeks, Ms Helen Ntosoo, Volta Regional Minister told a general meeting of the Volta region branch of Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) in Ho on Thursday.

The highway has become the preferred route for most drivers from the Central and Northern sectors of the Volta Region to Accra instead of the ferry crossing at Senchi following the closure of the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku for major repair works.

Heavy rains have however rendered much of the uncompleted portions of the highway dangerous to ply as a result of uncompleted bridges, culverts and lack of warning signs.

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs had complained vehemently to government for not providing a safe and faster alternative route from the region to Accra before closing the Adomi Bridge for repair works.

The Sogakope-Adidome-Adaklu-Ho highway, the ferry crossing at Senchi and the Akuse Hydro Electricity Dam are the alternative routes from the region to Accra and much of the Eastern region.
