Work to commence on Kpando-Worawora-Dambai road

Dambai (V/R), Jan. 22, GNA - Work on the phase-three of the Kpando-Worawora-Dambai road is to commence in March, this year. When completed the 70-kilometre road will link the northern part of the Region to its southern sector.

Alhaji Amadu, Project Co-ordinator of Shinsung, a Korean engineering and construction company, made this known to the Volta Regional Minister Mr Kofi Dzamesi during inspection of projects in the northern part of the Region.

Alhaji Amadu said the company was mobilizing resources towards the start of the project.

He said the company was working with the Forestry Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency for clearance to blast a hill to accelerate work on the GH=A233.23 million and 16.23 million dollar project to meet the 42 months contract deadline.

Alhaji Amadu said the company was using local labour and called for the collaboration of communities along the project site. Mr Dzamesi expressed satisfaction about the enthusiasm of the contractor towards the work, saying, the road was dear to the heart of the government and the people of the region and urged the contractor not to delay on the project.

Mr Kwame Korankye-Adjei, Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority, expressed worry about how oil spillage from vehicles was destroying roads in the Region and called on district assemblies and assembly members to help stem the practice by discouraging the washing and repair of heavy duty vehicles on roads in their jurisdiction.
