Work begins in Accra markets, lorry parks

Accra, Dec. 5, GNA - A special revenue mobilisation taskforce has started work in Accra to collect revenue from traders and hawkers at the various lorry parks and markets.

The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment inaugurated the Rapid Results Team last week to ensure that maximum revenue is collected and all leakages in revenue collection from the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies are plugged. =93The team is not intended to engage in a witch-hunt,=94 it said in a statement issued by the Ministry on Tuesday.

The statement signed by Mr Frank Asante, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, said the team was not to molest or arrest traders and hawkers, adding that traders and members of the team should avoid being confrontational in the exercise that sought to bring sanity in all revenue mobilisation points within the assemblies.

=93Traders and hawkers should note that members of the team would be assisted by plain clothes security personnel to forestall any attempt to cause trouble and also to short-change the programme.=94 The statement said members of the team could be easily identified in their yellow T-Shirts and caps with the inscription Revenue Mobilisation-Rapid Results Team written at the back while the Coat of Arms and logo of National Youth Employment Programme is on the front.
