Wooden bridge collapses at Gomoa Oleferiku

Gomoa Oleferiku (C/R), April 29, GNA - Mr Ben Afful, Gomoa West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Transport to rehabilitate the wooden bridge on River Ochi, which collapsed at Oleferiku in the Gomoa District of the Central region.

He noted that the people in the area including school children risked their lives crossing the river to send their farm produce to the marketing centres and to attend school at Ajumako Abeadze. Mr Afful made the appeal when he conducted GNA round to inspect the bridge on Thursday after residents had reported the matter to the District Assembly.

Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive on Wednesday inspected the bridge, which was constructed under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) in November 2002.

Opanyin Kwesi Eyimbil, an opinion leader in the town told GNA the people have been cut off from the rest of the Region since no vehicles could ply the area, adding that, farm produce were getting rotten due to lack of transportation.

He appealed to the District Assembly and Central Regional Minister to send their request to Ministry and the Department of Feeder Roads for assistance.

Opanyin Eyimbil urged the authorities to treat their request with urgency before the start of the raining season. 29 April 05
