Winneba fishermen take delivery of pre-mixed fuel

Winneba C/R, Aug. 25, GNA- The Winneba Fishermen Association on Thursday took delivery of 3,000 gallons of pre-mixed petrol for distribution to its members.

The Chief Fisherman of the Area, Neenyi Kweku Mbri, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba on Friday thanked the committee responsible for the distribution of the product for rushing the consignment to the area to remedy the shortfall in supply. He described the arrival of the product as "a relief to the fishermen, but it got finished within three hours period". Neenyi Mbri said there are over 500 canoes in Winneba and its surroundings and the consignment that arrived on Thursday was "woefully inadequate".

Pre-mixed fuel shortage hit Winneba and its surrounding for the past two weeks compelling most fishermen to travel to Accra, Tema and other fishing communities to buy the commodity at exorbitant prices. Meanwhile, the Central Regional Coordinator of pre-mixed fuel, Mr. Mustapher Mohammed has appealed to leaders of fishing groups in the region to ensure prompt payment of products supplied to them on credit basis by the oil marketing companies According to him, delay in payment could affect distribution of the commodity to the fishermen. 25 Aug. 07
