Wiaga community lacks social amenities

The Wiaga Community of the Builsa District of the Upper East Region has been identified as one of the most deprived in the entire country.

The Community could not boast of potable water, good schools, good roads and good health care delivery systems, among others, social amenities.

Mr. Basko Kante, a one time Deputy Minister of Fuel and Power in the Dr. Hilla Limann regime disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at the end of year get-together of the Wiaga Citizens Association at the weekend.

He blamed the current low pace of development of the area on the supposedly low representation in the government of citizens of the area, saying this has really burdened the citizens who endeavour to get some of their needs.

Mr. Kante has therefore, appealed to the government to take urgent steps to complement efforts of the citizens to procure some of the amenities that the community lacks.

Mr. Sylvester Akantigsi, President of the Association said the union is a development-oriented social group for citizens of the Wiaga community.

He said over the past year, the Association, through the efforts of its members, both home and abroad, had provided furniture to all the first and second cycle institutions in the community.

He said, the Association has identified and would address the health needs of the people, hence the appeal for funds.

"We shall contact the Clinic authorities and get to know of their needs. We hope to provide them with their needs before the end of this year because they are our next target", he added.

Mr. Akantigsi has appealed to the members to be more united than ever in order to boost development in the area.

He has also called on citizens of Wiaga, who are not yet members to join to assist in the development of the area.
