The Weta Traditional Council, under the leadership of Torgbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI, Paramount Chief and Overlord of the Weta Traditional Area, has condemned the recent violence that erupted at Ehi-Weta, which left several police officers injured and caused damage to the local police station.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 7, 2025, the Council described the incident as “unfortunate and regrettable,” emphasising that such acts of violence have no place in the community.
“Ehi is noted for its tranquil and peaceful nature, and the citizens have lived in harmony over the years until this unfortunate development on Monday, November 3, 2025. The attempt to torch the police station and the acts of violence that occurred are most regrettable and have no place in our cherished community. These actions bring pain and shame to the peace-loving people of Ehi and the greater Weta,” the statement said.

The Council further noted that violence has never been part of the community’s traditions.
“Violence has never been part of our tradition. Our ancestors taught us the path of dialogue, respect, upholding the tenets of the rule of law, and unity,” it said.
The Weta Traditional Council commended the Municipal Chief Executive and the Ghana Police Service for their swift response in restoring calm and urged residents, particularly the youth, to cooperate with the police in uncovering the truth behind the killing and related disturbances.
“We urge our people, especially the youth, to cooperate fully with the police and assist in uncovering the truth behind the unfortunate murder and the related disturbances,” it added.
As part of efforts to rebuild peace, the Council outlined several measures to ensure lasting stability in the area. These include strengthening collaboration between the community and the police to rebuild trust, establishing community watch initiatives, organising youth reorientation and empowerment programmes focused on discipline and respect for authority, and mobilising support to rebuild and retool the Ehi Police Station into a modern facility.
“The Council shall work closely with the Ghana Police Service to re-establish a strong bond of trust and regular dialogue between the police and the people of Ehi and the greater Weta,” it assured.
The Council also called on government agencies, local authorities, and benevolent citizens to support the reconstruction efforts, stressing that restoring both the physical structure and the spirit of peace, cooperation, and confidence is vital to Ehi’s progress.

“The peace of Ehi is the peace of all of us. Let us not allow anger to divide us, nor vengeance to mislead us. As our forebears wisely said, ‘when peace reigns in the village, even the palm wine tastes sweeter,’” the statement emphasised.
The Council further appealed to the Ghana Police Service to reconsider its decision to shut down the Ehi Police Station, warning that the withdrawal of officers could create insecurity and disrupt economic activities.
“The Weta Traditional Council wishes to entreat the Ghana Police Service to respectfully rescind its decision to close the Ehi Police Station in order to safeguard the security and economic progress of the innocent citizens of Ehi and its environs.
The current decision of the Regional Police Command to withdraw all its men from the Ehi Police Station is a recipe for chaos and disaster. We plead for a reversal of that decision, as we also pledge to ensure the safety of all uniformed men who will be stationed at the Ehi Police Station,” the Council added.
