Western Region to honour ex-servicemen?

Takoradi, Nov. 11, GNA - The Western Regional Minister, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, has expressed the commitment of the Regional Co-ordinating Council to reward ex-servicemen during 2012 Independence Day celebration, for their contribution towards the freedom of the nation.

This, he said, would serve as motivation to the younger generation to be dedicated and fight for their nation at all times.

Mr Aidoo made this known at the regional celebration of this year’s Remembrance Day Service held in Takoradi in honour of the fallen heroes in World War One and World War Two.

He encouraged the veterans to form co-operative unions that would enable them to seek financial support to enhance the quality of their lives.

“You can take into poultry farming or any profitable venture and seek support from any of the district assemblies and I’m sure that they would be readily available to offer assistance,” he added.

The Regional Minister advised any veteran who had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme to do so in order to enjoy quality healthcare.

The Garrison Commander, Commodore Samuel Timothy Appiah, suggested that the Veterans Association of Ghana should be made an authority so that it could seek assistance from the government.

Mr Aidoo laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and the people of Ghana, Commodore Appiah on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, whilst Awulae Attibrukusu, President of the Regional House of Chiefs, laid a wreath on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Region.

Lance Corporal Kwamina Anim laid a wreath on behalf of the ex-servicemen.

Reverend Father Captain Francis lokko led the gathering to pray for peace and prosperity for the country and its leadership.
