West Gonja Assembly more than GH¢ 900,000 in education

Damongo, (N/R) July 3, GNA - The West Gonja District Assembly in the Northern Region has within the last two years invested more than GH¢900,000 for the provision of educational infrastructure towards improving the educational standards in the district.

This includes the provision of additional classrooms in most of the basic schools, a situation necessitated by the increase in the enrolment of pupils into basic schools, Mr Adam Mutaakilu, District Chief Executive (DCE) of West Gonja, told reporters during an inspection tour of some the projects.

At the Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School, the Assembly is constructing two teachers' quarters and a girl's hostel at the cost of GH¢ 480,000.00. The projects are being funded under the GETFund.

At the Busunu Primary School, the Assembly is constructing a three classroom block at GH¢ 60,000.00.

The project, which is about eighty per cent complete is funded under the District Wide Assistance Project (DWAP).

At Mempeasem, a kindergarten block and a three bedroom teachers' quarters is under construction at GH A2128,000.00. The Falahiya primary school in Damongo is also benefiting from a facelift with the construction of a three classroom block and a two bedroom teachers' quarters at GH¢ 220,000.00.

At the Kurabaso Junior High School, a three unit classroom block at the cost of GH¢ 78,000.00 is being built while at the Presbyterian Primary School, also at Damongo, a three unit classroom block is under construction.

The Northern Regional Poverty Reduction Programme (NORPREP) is funding these projects.
