West Akyem Development Fund is launched

Asamankese, March 14, GNA - A five billion-cedi West Akyem District Development Fund that would be used for infrastructure and human resources development was launched at Asamankese at the week-end. Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, the District Chief Executive, said the fund had become necessary because the government alone could not provide all the needs of the district.

"It is therefore important for the people to complement government's efforts by undertaking development oriented activities through contributions in various forms."

He said most of the towns and villages in the district were without potable water, electricity and other social amenities. "It is in the right direction to set up the fund that will be used not only for infrastructure development but also for developing our human resources".

He said scholarships and various forms of assistance could be extended to needy but brilliant individuals to pursue their academic ambitions.

Mr Sintim-Aboagye said the government had done a lot of good things for the district by providing facilities in areas of health, education, employment-creation, electricity, water and sanitation. The assembly has also provided sponsorship packages to nursing and teacher trainees and some youth to pursue various courses. He said human resource development would continue to be a major development agenda in the assembly's medium term plans.
