"Wee" seller remanded in custody

A 41-year-old "wee" seller at Assin Fosu, Evans Alhassan was on Friday remanded in prison custody by a Cape Coast circuit court for possessing 6,580.0 grams of Indian hemp.

Prosecuting, Mr. Robert Beke, a state attorney, told the court presided over by Mr. Charles Quist that Alhassan was arrested on November 14, last year, during a police raid at his house at Assin Fosu where a large quantity of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found in his room.

He said one Efua Serwaa who was then sleeping in the room during a police search, upon interrogation, mentioned Alhassan as the owner of the room and later led the police to arrest him in a nearby kiosk.

He said Alhassan, later claimed ownership of the leaves in his caution statement and when the leaves were sent to the police forensic laboratory in Accra it tested positive for cannabis.
