There was chaos at the Agona Amenfi Palace in the Western Region, which led to the shooting of one of the traditional leaders in the area by officers of the Ghana Police Service.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred when the traditional leaders prevented a messenger from entering the palace, on May 30, 2026.
The palace messenger was reportedly sent to retrieve a ceremonial hoe for a sod-cutting ceremony for a new maternity ward in the community.
The traditional leader allegedly attacked a palace messenger to prevent him from entering the palace.
The police were called to the scene and, in the process of restoring calm, shot the traditional ruler multiple times after he refused to surrender the cutlass he was holding.

A video of the incident showed the police ordering the traditional leader, who was clad in a traditional smock and adorned with talismans, to put down the cutlass.
The accused person ignored the orders, which led to one of the policemen opening fire on him, and one of the bullets hit his hand.
He started running around after the bullet hit his hand. After a few minutes, he sat on a chair before falling onto the ground.
Both the suspect and the injured palace messenger were taken to a nearby health facility for treatment.
The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
