Wassa West District inaugurates projects

Anyinam (W/R), April 28, GNA - Three Projects valued at 1.7 billion cedis were inaugurated at separate ceremonies in the Wassa West district with a call on parents to regard education of their children as the foundation for their development.

The projects included a block of three classrooms valued at 197 million cedis situated at Anyinam near Prestea and rehabilitation works on the Prestea Anglican Primary School valued at 629 million cedis. The third project involved rehabilitation of Prestea market at the cost of 918 million cedis.

Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs inaugurated the classroom block and the rehabilitated market while Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, inaugurated the rehabilitated Anglican Primary school infrastructure. Addressing the gathering, Hajia Alima said good foundation was crucial for children's development and called on parents to ensure that children are sent to school because it is the basis for their development.

She held that it is at school that potentials of children are often unearthed.

Alhajia Mahama expressed concern about the attitude of some parents who push their children to go into galamsey activities for monetary gains, saying every member of the community should abhor the practice. She said parents should take advantage of the introduction of the Capitation Grant and provide school needs to their wards to motivate them to enrol and stay in school.

She advised schoolgirls to concentrate on their books and that they should shun early sex because it could ruin their future. The Minister also urged the women to work hard to support their husbands in the upkeep of the home.

She appealed to the Chiefs and elders of the town to form Parents Teacher Association to help in the running of the school. Nana Kwabena Danso II, chief of Anyinam, appealed to the DCE for three more classrooms to make the primary school complete.
