Wasipeawura appeals for creation Daboya/Mankarigu District

Daboya (N/R), April 18, GNA - Wasipeawura Mumuni Anyame 11, paramount Chief of the Wasipea Traditional Area has appealed to the government to create a separate district for the area out of the West Gonja District to be known as the Daboya/Mankarigu District.

He said the Daboya and Mankarigu area was a large area endowed with vast untapped natural resources. Wasipeawura Anyame 11, made the appeal when Alhaji Abubakar Saddiqque Boniface, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing visited Daboya to inspect water projects.

The Wasipeawura said Daboya did not only have large deposits of salt, but also had a thriving fishing community and a smock industry. He said Mankarigu also had large tracts of arable land for farming and a big market, which was been patronised by people from the Northern and Upper East Regions.

He said the area had been neglected for a long time and had not had its fair share of development because the bridge linking Daboya to Tamale had not been constructed as promised by President John Kufuor during his electioneering campaign in 2000 when he visited the area. He said the Bunsunu road linking to Daboya through the Tachacli Bridge was also not constructed, virtually cutting off the area, especially during the rainy season.

Alhaji Boniface said the Tachali Bridge project was been worked out and promised to take the matter up with the sector Minister to ensure its early completion. Addressing a durbar held in his honour, Alhaji Boniface urged the youth to avoid provocative insults and other negative activities during and after the upcoming general election.
