Wa MCE charges Heads of Basic schools to improve B.E.C.E

The Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha has applauded headmasters, teachers, circuit supervisors and members of the Municipal Education Oversight Committee for their commitment to towards improving educational standards in municipality.

He has called on them to collectively work harder to improve performance in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality.

The MCE, who is the Chairman of the Municipal Education Oversight Committee (MEOC), made the call in a meeting with the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (JHS), Circuit Supervisors and other stakeholders in education in the Wa Municipality. The meeting was called by MEOC, under the tutelage of the MCE to see how this year’s BECE results can be improved. He added that candidates deserve the best of support to enable the excel in the examination.

In an address, the Municipal Director of Education, Hajia Fusata Hamidu, who is the Secretary of MEOC, outlined some of the moves taken by the committee. She mentioned strict supervision, organising SPAM meetings, meeting with stakeholders and bonding of the candidates as some of the moves taken and implemented by the committee all geared towards improving the performance.

She added that Municipal Assembly is organizing a mock examination for the candidates for them to have an experience on how the actual exams will be conducted. The director further commended the MCE for number of interventions by the assembly towards improving the standard of education. She mentioned the construction of a bungalow for director of education, chalk, textbooks and exercise books as some of the things he committed to the improvement of performance of pupils in the municipality.

Participants in the meetings shared best practices on how to improve performance in their schools. They also mentioned setting targets for Heads as one of the possible ways to improve performance.
