WANEP-Ghana to establish a Coastal Platform

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP-Ghana), is to establish a Coastal Platform Committee aimed at promoting dialogue in the oil and gas sector.

Mr. Justin Bayor, Network Coordniator told the GNA at a Regional Information sharing meeting on the project “Fostering Citizen Dialogue in Peace Building" (FOCIDIP) that, it was crucial to mitigate any upheaval that may arise as a result of the oil find.

The Committee would have stakeholders from the six coastal districts of the Western Region including members from the Security agencies.

Mr. Bayor added that, promoting dialogue for peace in the oil and gas sector was the surest way to detect any early warning signs for prompt action by state authorities.

He added that the Committee when operational, would be made up of 40 members with a small grant provided by WANEP to enable them to undertake activities and campaigns particularly in the six coastal districts.

He added that USAID under its Local Governance and Decentralization Programme (LOGODEP), had made funds available for the project which had a nine-month duration.

Mr. Gilbert Sam, a Representative from LOGODEP, said LOGODEP was working in all the 17 districts of the Region with various intervention programmes.**
