Volta Region Malian Chief attacked

Aflao, July 20, GNA - Five unidentified persons last Friday night attacked Alhaji Agiza Baraji, the Volta Region Malian Chief at his Akusa Park residence at Aflao resulting in head and body injuries.

Alhaji Baraji, who was attacked with stones, bled excessively and become unconscious but was revived at the Aflao District hospital, where he was on admission while his wife Aisha Nuhu was treated and discharged. Talking to the Ghana News Agency at the hospital, Alhaji Baraji said the attackers, who took away a bag containing unspecified amount of money and personal belongings did not aim at robbing him but to assassinate him. Alhaji Baraji said the gang forced the outer door to room opened, entered the apartment and attacked him. He said when his wife attempted to raise the alarm the men assaulted her and ordered her to keep quiet.

A tenant of the couple told the GNA that he saw five men scaling the fence wall of the house when came out to ascertain what was going on. Dr Bismarck Hottor, Medical Doctor at the Hospital, said he managed to revive Alhaji Baraji and stopped the bleeding adding that an x-ray examination would be done to determine the extent injuries. The Aflao Police said no arrests have been made and that they were investigation the matter. In July last year Alhaji Baraji was attacked and robbed of 15 million cedis on the Aflao border while returning home from work.
