Volta Educational Fund launched

Accra, Sept. 05, GNA - The Volta Region Student Association -Ghana (VORSAG), on Saturday launched an appeal for funds to support its annual vacation-teaching programme for basic schools in the Volta Region. The union has sent appeals to the Regional Administration, Regional and district education offices, Members of Parliament, corporate bodies and individuals for support. Mr Vincent Adzaglie, President of the Association in an interview with the GNA said the appeal was in response to calls to arrest the falling standard of education in the region. "Every year many students express the willingness to be part of this annual exercise but our budget is unable to cater for all of them," he said.

The association has opened an account number 1171060014909 with the Ghana Commercial Bank, Liberty House Branch so that the public could make donations. Mr Adzaglie said the Association also planned a "Home Coming Summit" for October 27 to November 2, 2004 for all stakeholders to find ways of combating the downward trend of education and unemployment in the region. VORSAG a voluntary, non-political association of students in the various tertiary institutions from the Volta Region undertakes programmes like vacation teaching, advocacy, campaigns on environmental issues, HIV/AIDS, health and sanitation and career development.
