Volta CPP Moves Into Top Gear

As part of the comprehensive programme of activities in a bid to rejuvenate the organisational structures and increase membership base of the Convention People's Party, the Volta Regional branch of the party has launched two billion strategic fund and the out dooring of a long term strategic plan document.

The strategic plan document captures activities including the mapping out of wards and branches, constituency organisation, membership drive and income generating activities which according to the organisers, "will address the political and socio-economic concerns of the people before the December 2004 elections".

The execution of the activities as envisaged in the "Strategic Plan Document" are based on self-help and commitment in order that the party will be owned and supported by members.

The 38-page document contains among others, analysis of the party's strength, witnesses, opportunities and the threat that the party faces in the region.

It also contains analysis of the stakeholders, key issues both internal and external, which were identified as strategies to be adopted towards the 2004 elections.

Under the strategies, the regional and constituency offices and ward structures would be revamped and equipped with resources for effective party organization and mobilisation at the grass root level; the establishment of planning and marketing organs and the creation of a publicity desk to carry out public relation duties.

The party also identified that capacity building as one of the major tools for success and believe if the party should build on that aspect of the party's organisation, it would strengthen the party in the Volta Region.

The capacity of active players like regional and consistency executives, communities and youth groups as envisaged by the strategic plan document, according to the party would be built in management, communication, leadership, skills, social marketing skills, community mobilisation and income generating activity.

A mechanism is also expected to be put in place to check infiltration into the rank and file of the party, whilst a successful national delegates congress would be held to elect a dynamic flag bearer to govern the party for vigorous action.

The occasion brought together prominent party functionaries including Dr. Abubakar Alhassan, the national Chairman, Prof. Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary, Mike Eghan, the third national Vice Chairman, Freddie Blay, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dr. Matthew Narh Tetteh, an author and leading member of the party and a guest speaker of the function.
