Victor Smith & Kwahu East DCE Go After Fulani Herdsmen

Eastern Regional Minister, Emmanuel Victor Smith,
and the District Chief Executive of Kwahu East, Samuel Asamoah have decided
they would no longer brook any nonsense from Fulani herdsmen after the herdsmen
killed a father and a son in a village called Nkweduwa.
The herdsmen killed a farmer called Kofi Kitiwa and
his son, Emmanuel, a student, who had come back home for the holidays.
Prior to this, the Fulani herdsmen, without
provocation, had gone on a shooting spree at two villages Suntre and Abudam.
However, no casualties were recorded there. They then proceeded to Demano where
they shot three of the villagers. Two are currently on admission at the
hospital. They are said to be in critical conditions.
On Friday, April 27, at Nkweduwa, they shot and
killed Kofi Kitiwa and his son, Emmanuel before fleeing back to their hideout.
But now, they have a combined team of military and police officers at their
heels thanks to the interventions by the Regional Minister, Victor Smith and the
Kwahu East DCE, Samuel Asamoah.
Information gathered by the Daily Post reveals that the military cum police
operations carried
out so far has led to the arrest of thirty Fulani herdsmen. Five of them were rounded
up yesterday, Sunday, May 6, 2012.
When contacted, the Kwahu East DCE, Samuel Asamoah,
told this paper that murder is a crime, no matter who is involved. As a result,
they are going all out to get the murderers of Kofi Kitiwa and his son, Emmanuel.
He revealed that a screening exercise will soon be conducted to flash out from
among those arrested those who were involved in the crime.
Investigations conducted by the Daily Post reveal that the Fulani herdsmen are those
who were ejected
from the Ashanti Region, particularly from the Agogo area recently.
Having descended on the Eastern Region, they have
operated mainly in the Kwahu East area with the connivance of some police
officers and chiefs. One of the chiefs, the Adehyehene of Pepease, accordingly
has been invited by the Koforidua police to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, the grim determination by the Minister
and the DCE is said to have been hailed by the people of Kwahu East who cannot
believe that for the first time in many years, they have political leaders who
will not tolerate the activities of these Fulani herdsmen.
