VVU inaugurates Techiman Campus

The Provost of Valley View University, Techiman Campus Prof Joseph Kwasi Osei has underscored the need for the country to prioritize Agriculture to improve upon unemployment situation in Ghana.

According to the Provost until policies formulators put Agribusiness to the forefront of their agenda the nation’s quest of attaining middle income status by 2015 would be a mirage. Prof. Osei made this remarks when he was delivering a speech during inauguration of Techiman Campus Pre- degree programme of the institution.

He indicated that, the university with its visions of producing mature Christian educates with emphasis on higher academic, vocational, and technological excellence to promote intellectual, spiritual, psycho-social and development to the people in Ghana.

Prof. Osei expressed their commitment to attain higher standards and expectations to train more youth to be self employed to alleviate the pressure from the government for non existing jobs.

The Provost enumerated some programmes the institution is offering for the students as Accounting, Human Resource Management, Banking and Financing, Agribusiness, Computer Science and Education for a total of 126 new entrances.

He said VVU Techiman Campus will put much premium on improvement of food security Crops and Animal Husbandly. He announced that University would establish Soya bean processing facility to produce soybean milk to feed school children.

Delivering the keynote address the Member of Parliament for Techiman South Hon Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi who has worked tirelessly to bring the University’s campus to his royal jurisdiction the SDA Church for putting up such multimillion facility to train more youth in Techiman and Ghana as a whole.

Hon Ameyaw Akumfi who was s a minister for pots Harbour and Railways in erstwhile Kfour’s administration observed that, the first batch of students the will face more challenges, such as accommodation, inadequate class room blocks as well as library facilities but the MP warned them to live above reproach to ensure they emerge as graduates.

Hon Ameyaw Akumfi appealed to University authorities to concentrate more on agric as they have promised to enable to community benefit from the institution.

In a speech read for his behalf, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Mr Kwedwo Nyamekye Marfo by the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive Hon Alex Kyeremeh expressed government preparedness to expand the falsities in the institution to complement government’s efforts of investing into people.

Mr. Nyamekye Marfo noted that VVU which in third private University to accredited on Ghana is improving significantly but challenged institution to do more in producing good graduates into the job markets. On his part, the Kyidomhene of the Techima Traditional Council Oyeadeeyie Asakom Panin who chaired the occasion pledged for their support to ensure sustainability of the University. He promised to release more lands to the institution for their future development.
