VRA remembers Louis Casely-Hayford

The Volta River Authority (VRA), at the weekend, organized a non-denominational remembrance service at Akosombo, for the late Dr Louise Ekow Casely-Hayford, a former Chief Executive of VRA from 1980 to 1990, who died this year at the age of 78.

The late Dr Casely-Hayford is famous for playing a major role in the extension of electricity to the northern part of Ghana, the construction of the Kpong Dam, the Bui Hydroelectric Dam, and in the training of engineers who are currently heading the various hydropower generating plants in the country.

In a tribute, the Vice-President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur described the late Casely-Hayford as a multi-talented fellow who could engage people in various issues.

He said, though Dr Casely-Hayford retired from the VRA long time ago, he was very much concerned about the power crisis facing the country, and days before his death, he called him to discuss with him how to overcome the power crisis and the role he think he the Vice-President could play to help solve the challenge.

Preaching the sermon, Reverend Canon R. O. Ankrah of the Anglican Church, called for national honours to be bestowed on Dr Casely-Hayford, for his contributions towards the development of the country.

The service was attended by the Chief Justice , Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, top management personnel of the VRA, GRIDCO, Bui Hydro Electric Dam , Members of Parliament, the Asuogyaman District Chief Executive and former Chief Executives of VRA.
