VRA donates to flood victims in Northern Ghana

Tamale, Nov. 4, GNA - The Volta River Authority (VRA), has donated relief items to flood victims of the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The items, which cost GHc10, 000 included; 145 bags of maize and 65 bags of rice for the Northern Region, 95 bags of maize and 50 bags of rice for the Upper East and 60 bags of maize and 40 bags of rice for the Upper West.

Madam Abla Fiadjoe, Director General Services of the VRA, made the presentation in Tamale on Thursday to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) through the Northern Regional Coordinating Council for distribution to the affected persons.

She said the VRA had released GHc20,000 to support people who have been affected by natural disasters, and the donation was part of the initiative.

Madam Fiadjoe called on other corporate institutions to assist in rehabilitating the victims.

Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister, commended the VRA for supporting the flood victims.

He tasked NADMO to ensure that the items get to the right people, warning that "if you are caught diverting any of the relief items, it would not be pleasant for you".

Mr. Mabenga appealed to the VRA to expedite action on rural electrification in fulfillment of the better Ghana agenda.
