VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, GETFund hand over six-unit classroom block to Apegusu township

The Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund in collaboration with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET FUND) has handed over a six-unit classroom block with all ancillary facilities to the residents of Apegusu Resettlement Township located in Apegusu within the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The project which was financed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund and facilitated by Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund at the request of the Apegusu Resettlement Township is aim at responding to solving the current congestion the existing dilapidated structure which accommodates pupils of Apegusu DA primary school faces whilst improving teaching and learning.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to handover the project, the Acting Executive Director of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund Anthony Agblevor underscored the power of effective collaboration among key stakeholders to ensure that the mandate of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund is achieved.

He indicated that even though the fund is faced with inadequate resources to embark on projects which correspond with the number of requests from its resettlement townships, making good use of strategic alliances and collaboration over the years has ensured that the fund continue to remain relevant.

“Let me extend my appreciation to the Ghana Education Trust Fund for their assistance by way of funding this project and also ensuring that the project which was initially scheduled to be constructed at New Adjena which is part of the 52 Resettlement Townships of the VRA resettlement trust fund was relocated to the Apegusu Resettlement Township due to the fact that New Adjena already boast of a similar project” He noted.

Agblevor lauded the contractor, the project engineer and all the key stakeholders within the district and the community for their various roles in ensuring that the project came to life.

In a remark made on behalf of the Asuogyaman District Chief Executive (DCE), Godwin Bobobee, the DCE expressed his appreciation to the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund and the GET Fund for their support towards quality education within the district indicating that the construction of the project is timely since it would go a long way to benefit all stakeholders within the catchment area.

He also made a commitment on behalf of the District Assembly to ensure that the classroom block is well maintained and equipped with the necessary furniture for use by the pupils.

Assisting the District Education Director, the Headmistress of the school and other key stakeholders to receive the newly constructed classroom block, the headman of the Apegusu Resettlement Township, Togbe Dumedefor recounted how supportive the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund has been to the Apegusu Resettlement Township over the years and promised to ensure that the newly constructed classroom block is well taken care of to achieve its intended purpose.

The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund was established in 1996 to improve the quality of lives of 52 Resettlement Townships through the carrying out of socio-economic projects such as provision of educational, social, health and sanitation facilities, reliable and potable drinking water supply as well as economic empowerment through enhanced livelihood options as a result of the creation of the Akosombo Hydroelectric Project in 1961.
