Use constitution and fairness to address Bawku conflict - Organised Labour

Bolgatanga , May 3, (Akapule) GNA - Organized Labour in the Upper East Region on this year's May called on the Government as a matter of urgency to use all available constitutional and legal means and fairness to bring the conflict in Bawku to an end. \ Organized Labour made the call in a communiqu=E9 issued in Bolgatanga and signed by the Regional Secretary of the Ghana Trades Union Congress, Mr Augustine Adongo Apambilla; Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Mr Linus Attey; Regional Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Mr Ms Elizabeth Zanlerigu and Regional Secretary of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, Mr Michael Ayuriboya. They said the situation in the area was not only affecting Bawku but the Region and entire nation, which the Government should view as very important and should adopt more pro-active means to addressing the conflict in the area.

Labour further appealed to all the parties involved in the conflict, particularly chiefs and community leaders, opinion leaders and the youth and all the good people of Bawku to forget about the past and to forgive one another and to think about how they could bring development to the area. They explained that Bawku, which was once a thriving commercial centre had deteriorated and would continue to deteriorate if the people involved in the conflict did not stop it They called on the Security Forces deployed within the conflict area to ensure the safety of workers in the area who were rendering their services to the nation at the peril of their lives.
