Use children's imagination in the application of scientific principle - Onyinah

Kumasi, Jan. 28, GNA - Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education has advised Science and Creative Arts teachers to encourage children to use their imagination in the application of scientific principles to promote creativity and invention. He said encouraging children to effectively use their imagination would help make the teaching and learning of science more practical.

Mr Onyinah gave the advice when interacting with some science teachers and technicians from the northern sector of the country attending a three-week residential workshop in Kumasi. The workshop attended by about 250 science teachers and technicians, was organised by Ghana Education Service (GES) with support from Harris International of the United Kingdom.

Mr Stephen Anokye, Headmaster of Opoku Ware Senior High School (SHS) advocated for the establishment of a special, well-equipped science school in each district to promote efficient science education in the country. The science schools, he noted, would cater for only science students in the area to make science education relevant to the needs of any particular society.

Mr Anokye said, combination of the departments of science, business and general arts education in a school did not allow science students to acquire enough knowledge and skills for creativity and invention.
