Upper West state attorneys on strike

State Attorneys in the Upper West region have joined the strike by their colleagues in the Ashanti and the Brong Ahafo regions.

The State attorneys have laid down their tools over unpaid allowances.

Last week the Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, met the striking attorneys in the Ashanti region to assure them that the government had released funds for the payment of the allowances.

But the striking attorneys have resolved to abandon their post until they receive the money.

The deputy State Attorney for the Upper West region, Saeed Abdul Shakur, told Starr News that they cannot continue to work under the current conditions.

“We doubt the promise that funds have been released,” Shakur said, adding, "we know that our action would cripple the justice system but we have to, we cannot continue to work under those circumstances.”

Shakur added, “we would continue to stay home until our grievances are resolved.”
