Upper West Students Union embarks on a clean-up exercise

Wa, July 1, GNA - Members of the Upper West Students Union (UWESU) have embarked on a day's clean-up exercise at the Wa lorry station in order to make the place more conducive for commercial activities.

The exercise which was done in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited saw the students sweeping and de-silting choked gutters.

The students who enthusiastically carried out the exercise said it was in connection with the theme: 93The Role of the Upper West Student in the Development of the Region".

Briefing the GNA after the exercise, Mr Festus T. Kunkpe, President of the Union said the exercise was in line with a number of activities programmed to be carried out by the Union.

He said they had embarked on the clean-up exercise in order to emphasize and demonstrate to the public the need to practice good sanitation both at home and at their work places.

He said many of the diseases sent to the hospitals could have been prevented if the people practiced good hygiene in and outside their homes, adding that the union would keep their environmental cleanliness campaign alive in order to change attitudes.

Mr Kunkpe said the development of the region was dependent on how much the youth were willing to contribute and gave the assurance that the Union was ready to carry this message across to their colleagues.

He expressed gratitude to the Regional Zoomlion Office for the support in assisting them to successfully carry out the exercise.
