Upper West Regional NDC inaugurates communication team

The Upper West Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday inaugurated a 25-member communication team in the party's bid to retain power in Election 2012.

The group is expected to research into programmes, policies and achievements of the Government and communicate its findings to the people .

Mr. Cezar Kale, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, who performed the inaugural ceremony in Wa, said the Government’s performance was very impressive .

He advised members of the communication team to focus on development issues and eschew politics of insults.

Mr Kale noted that since the NDC Government assumed office in January 2009, more than 350 education projects had been completed in the region, creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning .

He said Government distributed school uniforms and exercise books free of charge to school children, increased Capitation Grant and expanded the School Feeding Programme.

He said a regional library complex was under construction and approval had been given for the establishment of three more senior high schools in the region.

Touching on health, the Deputy Regional Minister said five polyclinics and a regional hospital were under construction and three health assistant schools had been opened in the region to train more health personnel.

He said 400 communities in the region were being connected to the national electricity grid and work on the Wa-Walewale road was on course.

Mr. Kale stated that more than 500 boreholes had been provided to increase access to potable water while beneficiaries of the National Youth Employment Programme had increased from 2,500 to more than 5,000.

He said the legacies of President John Evans Atta Mills would earn him a second-time in office.

Mr. Eric Dakurah, the NDC Regional Secretary and member of the team, said the group would work hard to enable the party to win all the 11 seats in the region.

Hajia Salma Cecelia Hamza, the NDC Regional Women’s Organizer, expressed worry that no woman was part of the communication team and advocated the inclusion of women in the group.

Mr. Yahaya Yakubu, the NDC Regional Propaganda Secretary and leader of the team, said the members would avoid abusive language and focus on issues to give the party a clear victory in Election 2012. **
