Upper West District Assembly core staff go to school

Wa, Nov. 10, GNA - Mr. Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister has called on organisations engaged in organising refresher courses should always follow up with evaluation programmes to determine the level of impact such training courses have on participants. "You would agree with me that most workshops, despite their good intentions end at the workshop, that is nothing is implemented and we all come to square one," he explained.

Mr Mogtari said this in a speech read on his behalf at a five-day workshop organised for District Chief Executives, District Co-ordinating Directors and District Planning Officers at Wa on Monday.

The workshop which is organised by Social Investment Fund (SIF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Ghana Poverty Reduction Programme, German Development Co-operation among others would equip participants skills in poverty management.

The Regional Minister said although funds were available for poverty reduction at various levels of governance, management was one of the herculean tasks and commended various organisation for the programme.

Mr Mogtari said in view of the fact that about 38 per cent of Ghanaians are still classified poor and 70 per cent still do not have potable water there was the need to adopt pragmatic measures to reduce some of these developmental problems.

Mr Immanuel Tettey, Senior Consultant of Nkum Associates of German Technical Co-operation (GTZ) said the programme was first piloted in two districts successfully and later implemented in 20 other districts. Mr Tettey said currently the programme would be implemented in all the 110 districts to efficiently equip participants to implement their skills towards the rapid development of the country.

The five-day workshop attracted about 50 participants made up of District Chief Executives, District Co-ordinating Directors, District Planning Officers and selected heads of government ministries, departments and agencies.
