Upper East TEIN congratulates Mills for selecting John Mahama

Bolgatanga, April 18, GNA - The Upper East Branch of the Tertiary Education Institutions Networks (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has appealed to the committee set up to investigate the bloated Ashanti Regional voters' register to finish its work before the next voter registration in May.

Mr. Amos Awinzor, Coordinator of Upper East Region TEIN, told a news conference at Bolgatanga that "New registration cannot take place whiles the existing electoral register is still saddled with a lot of unresolved problems. This must be handled with a sense of urgency and speed", he said.

He called for a definite statement to be made on the bloated register and said "It cannot rely on the media and other personalities who have no dealings with the Electoral Commission (EC) on this all important matter".

Mr Awinzor appealed to the media to be fair in their reportage in the upcoming general election to enable Ghanaians to make informed decisions.

"We ask that mischief and bias reportage should as much as possible be avoided. This is certainly not good for our young democracy", he said.

Mr Awinzor expressed regret at crime waves in the country, especially contract killings and armed robbers on the high ways, and appealed to the government to fashion out pragmatic solutions to deal with the situation.

He appealed to the government to reduce the sky rocketing school fees in second cycle and tertiary institutions in the north and also called for the release of feeding grants to second cycle schools. 18 April 08
